Nathan Brennan

Director

Nathan Brennan is a proud Gumbaynggirr, Bundjalung, and Gamilaraay man with over 18 years of experience in Aboriginal community development, cultural revitalisation, and executive leadership.

Nathan has been instrumental in several influential environmental initiatives, including the establishment of New South Wales’ first Sea Country Indigenous Protected Area along the Coffs Harbour coast and the creation of the Gumbaynggirr Good Koala Country Plan, Australia’s first Indigenous-led koala conservation strategy. Through his expertise, he supports Indigenous ranger groups nationally to harness their traditional knowledge and integrate these into frameworks, strategies, and management plans. Nathan also serves on the National Advisory Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Water Interests, contributing to culturally inclusive and sustainable water management practices. His work champions community-led programs that support the continuation of cultural land and sea management practices that have been carried out for thousands of years.

Nathan’s ongoing efforts in Indigenous land and sea management and language revitalisation continue to reconnect Indigenous communities with their cultural land and sea management practices and language.
