Ambassadors

Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital is proud to have so many passionate ambassadors who help to spread the word about our work across the globe and share our values and mission. Scroll down to explore our current ambassadors.

  • “Bird is the word”. Biggy Pop, the feathered bestie and avian son of The Godfather of Punk, Iggy Pop, is the founding Patron of Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital. “I’m a bird, and a real wild one, and I have many cockatoo cousins in Australia,” squawked Biggy, from his home near Miami, Florida, USA. “I was so distressed to hear that 180 million birds died in the catastrophic bushfire crisis that killed over 3 billion native animals in Australia.”

“Being Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital’s founding Patron means I can connect with and support my friends and relatives in the magical land of Oz.” 14 years ago, Iggy found Biggy stuffed into a cage, alongside some chickens, at a roadside vendor in a remote part of Florida. “He seemed to be in peril of a bad future. So we decided to take care of him, responsibly. And we have. He gets and gives a lot of love” says Biggy’s Dad, Iggy.

Iggy cares as much about wildlife as we do, so it made perfect sense for Biggy Pop to be Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital’s founding Patron! We are truly honoured that he’s the bird to help us spread the word.

  • Jiimeoin is acclaimed as one of the hottest standup comics of this generation.

A true comedy master, and a prolific writer with an exceptional audience rapport, Jimeoin is known and loved for his brilliantly funny wit and charming observations on the absurdities of everyday life.

Jimeoin’s regular appearances at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and his widely successful Australian tours attract sellout advance bookings, often with extra shows added due to demand. Is a regular invitee to the mecca of comedy, Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival.

When he’s not making people’s faces ache from laughter, Jimeoin is serious about protecting wildlife and the habitats they rely on. He has supported habitat regeneration projects for koalas and donated his time to perform at the launch of Australia’s largest Mobile Wildlife Hospital, showing that he’s not only someone of enormous comedy talent, but a man of generous spirit. We’re looking forward to collaborating on projects #forthewildlife with Jimeoin!

  • Trinity Mattocks is an inspirational figure. In 2023, she commenced walking the National Trail from Cooktown, at the northern tip of Queensland to Healesville, in country Victoria to raise money for Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital. The National Trail is Australia’s premier long-distance trekking route and stretches an incredible 5330 kilometres along the entire length of Australia’s eastern seaboard. The Trail links stock routes, bush tracks, fire trails and surveyed roads along the Great Dividing Range. Alongside the Australian Trail Horse Riders Association, legendary Australian bushman and bootmaker R.M. Williams created the Trail where walkers, horse riders, cyclists and animal packers could experience the lifestyle of drovers who once frequented Australia’s stock routes.

Trinity is in the snowfields of Victoria now, not far from the finish line. To date she has raised over $8700 for our veterinary work saving sick, injured and orphaned wildlife. Here’s Trinity on why she is undertaking this epic journey:

Our native wildlife bring this country to life whether it be from our backyards to the outback, the kitchen window to the coastline or our verandahs to the creek. They paint our outdoor adventures (whatever shape or form) with scenes of colour, sounds & character. This wildlife hospital, its patients, its workers, means so much to me!”

  • Creative Director and Photographic Consultant for Getty Images.

James Morgan’s career spanning 35 years as a professional photographer started at the young age of sixteen working with the UK’s Times newspapers, where he captured some of the most important news and cultural events of the decade: Thatcher, Reagan, Gorbachev, Princess Diana, the IRA and Pan Am 747 Lockerbie bombings, the Cannes Film Festival, the opening of ‘Phantom of The Opera’ on Broadway, Milan & New York Fashion Week, to name but a few.

As Chief Photographer to the Walt Disney Company based in Paris, James advised Disney’s management team on image selection across its global portfolio, including the launch of Animal Kingdom in Florida. With a solid background of photographic, journalistic and public relations work he established the James Morgan Photographic Consultancy, in London and also in Sydney, Australia. Perhaps James work on the Animal Kingdom has fuelled his passion as a Wildlife Ambassador for Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital; James is a good friend of our veterinary team, helping share our vital work with the world through Getty Images.

  • We’re honoured to count actor and poet Joshua Sasse as a Wildlife Ambassador! Star of the ABC’s Galavant, the CW’s No Tomorrow and Fox’s epic, multi-generational musical drama “Monarch”, Josh is an avid and passionate man of the wild, having spent some of his childhood in Nepal and travelled widely in Africa. We’re delighted that this multi-talented good human has chosen to help spread the word about our lifesaving veterinary care for Australian native animals in crisis.

  • Tex Perkins is literally and figuratively a towering figure in Australian music. Since the mid-eighties, the charismatic singer and artist has fronted bands from the experimental punk-tonica of Thug, the ferocious, filthy rock and roll of the Beasts of Bourbon, the hypnotic soundscapes of The Cruel Sea and more recently the lilting, dark country soul of the Dark Horses and the Fat Rubber Band.

Relentlessly creative, Tex has collaborated with revered artists including Don Walker, Charlie Owen, Tim Rogers, Adalita, Phil Jamieson among scores of others. His stage presence and baritone were put to brilliant use in The Man in Black – The Johnny Cash Story interpreting the story of his rise to stardom, his fight for survival and his eventual redemption through music.

Tex happily agreed to sign a guitar for a fundraiser auction to raise funds for Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital; in his inimitable style, he did this on the bonnet of his car one sunny day in a North Coast country town. As a Wildlife Ambassador, Tex helps us spread the good word about the need to provided dedicated treatment and care for injured and traumatised wildlife.
