Dr. Larry Vogelnest

Director

Larry graduated from the University of Sydney in 1984. He is currently Senior Veterinarian at Taronga Zoo Sydney where he is responsible for the health of the Zoo’s animal population and wildlife admitted to Taronga Wildlife Hospital.

In 2009 Larry was awarded a Public Service Medal for his contribution to conservation medicine and service to the Taronga Conservation Society Australia. He is principal editor of ‘Medicine of Australian Mammals’, ‘Radiology of Australian Mammals’ and ‘Current Therapy in Medicine of Australian Mammals’, and author or co-author of several chapters in these texts. He specialises in the veterinary management of small populations and has participated in and advised on numerous conservation projects, both in Australia and overseas. He has extensive experience with preventative medicine, zoonotic disease management, chemical restraint, reproductive management, clinical medicine and rescue and rehabilitation of Australian native wildlife.
